Summer Sailstice 2020 Second Life

It may be the biggest virtual sailing event ever. If you are aren't able to raise your sails in real life, this may be the perfect event for you.

Summer Sailstice was founded in February 2001 by John Arndt, as the global, annual celebration of sailing held on the weekend nearest the summer solstice. (Summer Sailstice Website) Although very much a real world event, the Covid-19 pandemic may be keeping many sailors in their homes in June, leading to a real need for a quality virtual experience.

These days sailing boats are much easier to handle than a few years ago. Its no longer a thing for the elite, the pros who probably learned it in real anyway before they sailed here in SL. Also there are many levels in sailing. Ranging from the majority who simply buy a boat because it looks fun and take it out with some friends, or just park it near their house as decoration, to those who never miss a race. Sailing is also a perfect way to socialize in SL. Be it in a harbour or marina or simply meet others who watch a race.

This is the 20th year for Summer Sailstice (SS), and it has always been about getting people OFF their computers and ON the water in sailboats!
