So today I share a story. I am here to honor my friend whom I have recently lost to suicide. When he died, he left behind so many people who loved him dearly, most importantly his children who called him Dad.
Every 40 seconds someone takes their own life according to the World Health Organization (WHO). World Suicide Prevention Day gives us time to reflect on the value of life and that no matter how bad things seem, there's always hope.
I am here today to support the Survivors of Suicide Peer Support Group in SL. They offer inworld support and help people find real life help outside of SL.
This support group is for anyone affected by mental health issues, ranging from anxiety and depression to bipolar, schizophrenia, and everything in between.
They were founded in December 2008 by Krissy Sinclair to help prevent suicide and fight the stigma surrounding mental health. Since then they have grown to over 900 members, and become an umbrella for all kinds of mental health issues.
They have several weekly meetings and get-togethers, including support group meetings, game nights, movie nights, and more!
Stretch out your hand to someone who may need help. It's widely known that certain behaviors indicate the possibility of suicide.
If you or someone you know may be suicidal call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline – 1-800-273-8255.
