Visit Day of Remembrance Memorial Garden
If you know of or are hosting an event in Second Life in honor of our fallen soldiers, please comment and share the slurl below.
Memorial Day is an American holiday, observed on the last Monday of May, honoring the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. It started as Decoration Day after the Civil War and officially became a national holiday in 1971. The holiday now honors those who died in any war while serving with the United States.
Did you know?
- U.S. citizens are asked to display the flag at half-staff from their homes before noon, as well.
- It's not appropriate to say "Happy Memorial Day," just as you wouldn't celebrate a loved one's funeral. This is a time to remember our fallen; it should be a somber reminder of the brave sacrifice men and women have made to keep the United States a free and just society.
